SPECIAL REPORT: The Media and Why We’re Screwed
I do not agree with Newt Gingrich on much. (I usually refer to him as “The Newtered One.”) Last night he reported that the media hasn’t been reporting the economy accurately and he is correct. The example I wished he use was the correlation between jobs created and the unemployment rate. Many economists state what approximately 120,000 jobs have to be created every month just to keep the unemployment rate stable. Only 40,000 jobs were created in October, yet the unemployment rate dropped from 9.1% to 9%. When something like this happens, it’s usually because more people ran out of unemployment benefits than found jobs. This isn’t what the media told us. They told us that the unemployment rate is dropped and that President Obama’s plan to create jobs is working. All the unemployment rate dictates is how many people are collecting benefits. The 80,000 people who neither found jobs nor will collect benefits this week are not unemployed according to the government.
But it gets worse. The media has a strange way of prioritizing news stories. Washington National’s catcher Wilson Ramos was kidnapped yesterday in Venezuela. That’s right, kidnapped. Whether this makes the top news story depends on what else is happening in the world. But this should at the very least been the top sports story. It was not. The top sports story (according to the media) was that Joe Paterno was fired for not reporting child sex acts performed by former Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky to the police. Paterno did report it to the Athletic Director of Penn State, but it was left there.
Meanwhile, Wilson Ramos is still kidnapped and is still being held at gunpoint against his will. I am not trying to dismiss child molestation. I have spoken out strongly against pedophilia in the past. Kidnapping is a serious crime, but because it’s not a sex crime like pedophilia is, Wilson Ramos isn’t going to get the press coverage that Joe Paterno is getting.
Most Americans get their news from the media. And while many Americans can tell you that Barack Obama is running for President as well as Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, and Rick Perry are running for President; how many Americans can tell you that Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman, and Ahmnodt Heare are also running?
A decision is best made when all the facts are presented and properly prioritized. When given limited facts in a disarray, the decisions made are more likely to be wrong.
When News was News
I had been hoping there would be a ton of political news happening for me to comment on. Not only are they not talking much about politics on the network news shows, there hasn’t been much political talk on the political talk news stations. What have they concired to be news?
- The Royal Wedding – It seems the news networks never received the memo that the United States declared independence from Britain 235 years ago. AT least Americans weren’t footed with the tax bill to pay for the wedding they weren’t invited to.
- Osama bin Laden – US Navy Seals shot and killed a man who died in 2001.
- Casey Anthony – the story the news stations like to go to when there is political stuff happening that they don’t wish to discuss.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Schriver separating – This story is about as relevant as the cat stuck in the tree until the fire department rescued it.
Back in the day, the only thing that was reported in the news was the news (and sports and weather,) The news usually told stories that were relevant to one’s life.I think Don Mills would agree with me. Today’s news (especially the Morning and Mid-Day shows) contain such hard-hitting stories as fashion tips and Hollywood gossip.
We need more news happening out of Washington. The Congresscritters and Obama are there. I am sure what they are doing is more important than fashion tips or Hollywood gossip.
If you are a news producer, I advise you to head to Capitol Hill and find out what Congress plans to do to us before they get to do it to us.
A Break From Royalty
Aside from a rant of approximately one minute, I will not be mentioning the “Royal Wedding” on my podcast tonight. I will be discussing other news as well as updates to my campaign. Showtime is 11:00PM (10:00PM Central). Listen to my show instead of watching the local news (Especially since their lead stories will be about the wedding) Last time I checked, London was not in the United States and should not be local news on any American newscast.
As Seen on TV
It is said that a good man can only be kept down for so long. I am that man. My first televised tweet was mentioned last month on MSNBC. I didn’t get to record it and there is no video of it on the web that I am aware of. My most recent tweet was read last night at the conclusion of WPIX’s “PIX News@10”.
The question had to do with whether the “Royal Wedding” should be considered to be news. Of course not! The video quality is poor because I recorded it with a $10 camcorder and not a high-quality DVR. (I keep telling you I am a fiscal conservative.)
I will be spending a good portion of the day campaigning and trying to capture my new-found fame.
My Take on Recent Events
Things are happening all the time. I will take some time and explain some of the things going on in the world:
Middle East: There have been protests and uprisings in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen. Contrary to some reports, these protests are not the result of protesters wanting me to be their president. (Although eleven people from Egypt have visited my site, the most recent visitor was January 27.)
Wisconsin: Both Scott Walker and the unions are missing the point here. The bottom line is that the children of Wisconsin are not learning the skills they will need as adults. Any money spent on education is wasted if children aren’t learning.
Charlie Sheen: I am proud to have hopped upon the #teamsheen bandwagon. My campaign needs an infusion of tiger blood. An endorsement from someone who preaches winning would be awesome. I just hope that Charlie Sheen doesn’t run for President.
Gay Marriage: It is ironic that many of the people who oppose that peopke oppose gay marriage on religious grounds when one considers that because homosexuals can not legally marry eacher, they are compelled to live in sin by shacking up.
Gas Prices: Gas prices have risen over 30 cents in the past two weeks mostly due to speculation. If we all speculate that things will be fine, it will lower gas prices.
I will try to make this a weekly type of posting so that people will have a fresh insight into how I see things. Feel free to share this post on Facebook and Twitter so others can be educated in current events.
Nothing to Write About
It was a slow week at work. My work was mostly spent tracking results by looking at data tables for clients. My work day was over 45 minutes later. The only thing slower than my work day was the news day (as far as relevant news is concerned.)
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is about to be arrested on a rape allegation in Sweden. He is currently in England waiting to be arrested. He is having a difficult time trying to find somebody to host WikiLeaks. The most damaging information leaked is that American diplomats don’t like Angela Merkel’s shoes. (Neither do I.)
Congress has yet to decide whether or not they are going to extend the tax cuts from 2001. If they don’t do anything they will expire. They will expire because Congress never does anything.
President Obama is in Afghanistan and not in Washington. This is nothing new. The last time he spent an entire week in Washington was when I was living in Washington (I lived in DC from when I was born [1973] through 2004 before moving to North Carolina. I have spent more time in Washington this year than he has (and I live in New Jersey, am not a lobbyist, and I don’t have any clients in the nation’s Capitol.
As far as relevant news is concerned, there isn’t any. The Cinemafia is quiet in their destruction of American culture this week. Vanna White is still beautiful. Justin Bieber and William Shatner are still in the United States.
I am sorry I couldn’t find anything to write about today. Hopefully, tomorrow’s another day.
2011 – The Debacle (April-June)
“Chicka-Chicka-Boom-Boom”
April was the month when I discovered that President Obama was a member of the Cinemafia and had no shame about it. The Cinemafia was also active in censoring me from the mainstream media after this tweet of mine managed to slip into the airwaves:
May started the long string of debates I wasn’t invited to. I did a tale of the tape comparing my policies to the Republican candidates and President Obama. I discussed in detailed the death of traditional news as we know it. The month invaded with Canada invading Atlanta again and stealing their hockey franchise.
June was a horrible month for me as I was unable to campaign much due to various injuries (hamstring, concussion, broken fingernail, etc.) At least we don’t have to worry about Anthony Weiner or Rod Blagojevich in politics for a while.
