Some Changes

I dug deep into the labyrinth of WordPress and made some changes which will benefit both real people and myself while eliminating a good portion of the spam that has been infesting this website in recent weeks.

The noticeable change you may notice is that posts older than 30 days will no longer accept comments.  Most of the spam had been going to old posts and not accepting comments at all should stop that.  Those who had recently tried to post but do not have a WordPress account should be able to post again.

I will be blogging tonight’s debate in real time.  You can watch the debate on Fox or you can get the correct answers here.

Making Sense of Things

For those of you who wish to blog but don’t know which blog service to use, I recommend WordPress.  I find that WordPress blogs get better placing in search engines.  The tools are easier to use than on Blogger and WordPress gives detailed information on how people found your blog, which page (or pages) they are reading, and even the links they click to leave your blog.

I like to click the links that brought people to my blog.  It is interesting to see where the link to my blog is on the sites where people are coming from.  The problem is that lately the links WordPress says brings people to my site don’t have links to my site.  For example, two people were brought to my site by http://imesothelioma.net/mesothelioma/, but there is no link to this blog anywhere on that page.

If you are new to this blog, I welcome you with open arms.  Don’t worry, I used deodorant today.  Please let me know how you found this blog (and this entry if you were brought specifically to this entry.)

Another thing that isn’t making any sense is that the page I said was getting a bunch of hits with the old blog format I was using is getting even more hits now though there isn’t anything to lead people to it mentioned in my blog stats.

Back to “Chaos Theory”

There were some glitches in the theme I was using.  For some reason, it kept featuring a post called “Dug Up Doing Research”.  It was a post that suggested based on data from a election website that I could have gotten as much as 2,823 votes for President in 2008.  I had never made it a sticky, but it stuck anyway.  I even went as far as deleting and reposting the entry.  That didn’t work.

I am back to the theme I was using for the first two years of blogging.  I will be keeping an eye out for themes that WordPress keeps making.  When I find one that meets my criteria, I will use that theme.

The entry I wrote earlier today would be the feature entry if I was allowed to feature it in the old theme.

Just a thought:  By looking around, I would think that Chaos is more than a theory.  It has been proven.

80,000 and Counting

I am pleased to announce that over 80,000 people have visited my blog.  Many people who have stopped by have been supportive of the campaign.  A few have not been supportive.  Those people include the Cinemafia, Betty White supremacists, hard-core Republicans and Democrats, and dentists.

Spammers have not been included in the count, or the count would be much higher.  Those who read the blog telepathically have not been counted because WordPress has said they do not have an accurate way to count telepathic hits.  Famous politicians who have read this blog and have used either my campaign strategy or in their platform include President Obama, Sarah Palin, John McCain, and most recently, Carl Paladino.

Unlike the past, when I had a mad rush of people looking for Grandma Oudda’s famous Strawberry Stroganoff recipe or paying tribute to Billy Mays, the people lately have been coming mainly looking for an alternative in 2012.  It seems for many of these people, I have been that alternative and for that I am honored.

Thank everybody for your continued support and together we can win this thing in 2012!

Riding the Gravy Train

One of the prices one pays as one becomes more popular is that some people want to ride one’s coattails.  One of the worst coattail riders is spammers.  These people will plug any product anywhere without knowledge of the topic and without consent of the blogger.

I would like to thank WordPress for having a Spam filter that gets most of the spam before it gets posted.  Some of the spam that gets filtered include “Viagra for Kids” and “Nancy Pelosi Nude!” pictures.

I understand that people want to start a business but they don’t have money for advertising.  I am an understanding person.  I will allow spam under the following provisions:

  • It must be topical – Don’t plug your brothel if I am talking about child care.  Plugging your brothel is acceptable only when I blog about a topic related to brothels and you provide me with round-trip transportation to and your brothel so I can sample for quality assurance for my readers.
  • It must be legal – I do not want to get in trouble for something I did not post.  If I do get in trouble, I will find you and make you listen to “Little River Band” 24/7 until you crack.
  • If possible, I would like a free sample (providing it is legal).

I hope we can work together on this.  And although I do not require it, it would be nice if you endorse me for president on your website.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I have been honored to have been asked to become a founding blogger for a new blogging service that emphasizes blogs about talk about the environment.  I have written several entries about global warming and other environmental issues.

I am honored, yet torn.  I have been blogging on WordPress for almost a year and a half.  While I am honored to be asked to be a founding blogger, I have met a lot of my supporters through here at WordPress.

Being a founding blogger does have its advantages.  The most noticable advantage is always having my blog on the “Founding Bloggers'” page.

I believe in keeping a diverse presence on the Internet.  That is why I have engaged in many other social networking services.  I am wondering if i should have a second blog to inform more people of my campaign.  Below are links to my social networking networks.  Feel free to join any or every service:

A New Way to Post

I am checking out WordPress’s posting via e-mail. This is pretty cool. There are some quirks, like one can’t place tags or place Vanna White pictures in the post. This would be a valuable way to communicate though once I figure out all the do-hickey stuff.
